Mike Watt just released an album called Hyphenated Man where he wrote songs inspired by details of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights painting. I thought this would be a good chance to draw some of the animals from the painting.
i like the stranger choices on this, the owl in egg shell, etc. heh, and if you're taking questions, im curious how much of the color you plan ahead for; like the color holds you used here for some of the animals linework
Hey Everyone, sorry I haven't been to my blog in a while, I've been working 20 hour days on 3 long jobs that I'm hoping will be done soon. Thanks for your comments.
Dominic- I'm a huge Minutemen fan too. I wish I could have done a more retro Mike Watt for this.
Eric - I use either a number 1 brush or a variety of different brush pens. For a good controlled dry brush effect I use my Pentel pocket brush and for really fine lines I use a Kuretake pen. The tip can get as thin as a single hair to really thick in one stroke.
Chris - If I had more time I would have gone reallly strange. The subject matter from the original painting really lends itself to some cool concepts. As far as the color, I usually have a general idea of what I want to do with outline colors and palettes. This one I wanted to make the outlines stand out over the black background.
I'm taking the rest of the night off to reconnect with the outside world. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your new work and I should be posting 2 months worth of stuff in the really near future.

Love this one , esp considering The Minutemen are one of my all time fave bands, Firehose was pretty good too ;-)
Another great piece. What brush do you use to get the hairs so fine?
