Phelps the Red Carp

Jonathan at Phawker.com asked my to draw Michael Phelps for an up to the minute update on every time Phelps wins a gold medal. I found a Chinese painting of a red carp jumping out of the water and exceeding its goal of just swimming to a gate. I thought this was fitting for Phelps and will add another carp for every medal he wins.

To all my Boston friends..

This week's cover of Boston's Weekly Dig.

Isaac Hayes RIP

Yesterday was a strange day. I got my weekly assignment for Philadelphia Weekly and it was to draw Isaac Hayes. It was for the Stax Records Anniversary celebration that Hayes was supposed to host. (The logo for Stax Records is snapping fingers just in case you didn't know why I drew him in this pose) Anyway, I come home yesterday ready to color in the drawing I did in the morning to find that Hayes had passed away sometime during the day yesterday. I wasn't sure if they were still going to use the illo but it turned into a memorial column for Hayes so the illustration still worked.

KEXP Poster

Here is a poster I just finished for KEXP Radio in Seattle. They are printing posters to advertise new bands on the rise. This version hasn't gone through final approval yet but I think this will be the one we're going with. The plan is to print 40.000 copies to give away at Seattle's annual music fest Bumbershoot.

3 illustration, 2 shows, and 1 long, sick, weekend

For Phoenix Magazine. The article is about the woman who was afraid to pull over for a cop on a dark road and was finally pulled over where the cop proceeded to smash her window and arrest her. She was going 10 miles over the speed limit.

For Baltimore City Paper. The article is about the connection between Dennis Wilson's final album and a reissue of a Droids album.

For Philly Weekly about math rockers Polvo.

Lyme Wars and Angels

Philly Weekly cover about deer ticks and lyme disease. Tim Gough, the new Art Director at PW has been nice enough to let me do another cover just 2 weeks after the Roots cover I did.

Illustration for Angels on Earth Magazine. The article is about a triathlete who got help from who she thought was a guardian angel. This was a fun assignment and the Art Director was extremely nice and positive.
